Massa loves colored pencils, but her red pencil is her favorite. One day she notices that it is getting shorter, and that upsets her and makes her use it sparingly. To show her appreciation for the pencil, she decides to give it a home and a family, so she asks her family to get her colored pencils and a nice box on her birthday. The story portrays the love for pencils and paper amidst a digital world where touch-screen tablets and laptops rule. It also teaches children to appreciate and take care of their belongings.
